Ever wondered how professional cake decorators managed to cut perfect strips out of fondant and gum paste? The secret tip is to use a strip or ribbon cutter. There are differences between two.
Ribbon cutters are adjustable cutters that also cut out strips from fondant and any other edible paste. They differ in the sense that they have adjustable sections that allows you to seperate the distance between the wheels. The ribbon cutters can cut at uneven widths where as the dough wheel cutters can cut multiple strips all at the same desired width.
Strip cutters generally are a fixed width cutter. The Jem range of strip cutters are a fantastic, easy to use cutter that cuts the same width strip every time. To use them, all you need to do is to roll out your sugar paste to your desired thickness and press the strip cutter into the sugar paste. The cut strip can be tapped out of the cutter with a slight knock.
